If you’re a subscriber to my FTM HD Elite portfolio, this is the only means I have of communicating with you – so please excuse my use of the forum this way.

You probably noted that there were no trades since the end of December. Angela, Barry, and I all researched it, and everything looked like it was working correctly. In looking at the SPY, there really weren’t many drawdowns that would trigger a long RTM trade.

On 1/29 a trade was triggered in AFL, so that makes me feel better and seems to confirm that things are working OK.

(I joked with Angela in mid January that at least we weren’t losing money…)

In case you don’t monitor the ATM forum, I put up a post over there that uses the FTM portfolio in a discussion about increasing its allocation level and the increased performance gained by doing so.

You might want to look at it, as the (rather radical) change in allocation would’ve produced a 60% return in 2018 with FTM.

Here’s the link to the thread;

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I'm trying to duplicate the results you posted for FTM with higher allocation rates in the post you discussed above. I though I had already set up FTM and Macro/Micro to use these higher allocation rates after you posted the account settings in https://www.omnitrader.com/currentclients/otforum/thread-view.asp?threadid=15835

But as I look at your results, mine are not nearly as good and I have much lower average % invested and allocation per trade. (see attach)

So I have done something wrong. Could you please confirm that the trade multiplier is 2X and that the account settings are as attached?

Hi Arby,
My post only used the FTM HD portfolio, and I failed to mention that I’d changed the “Trading Selection Ordered By” to Avg Volume Descending. My bad. There’s another whole post to that (someday) as far as using that as a crude ranking filter in OV.

Just testing – things should be much easier to control in ATM when I have time.

Below is a snag of all the settings you need.
3 changes numbered: #1 is the most important since that's what increases the allocation size
It's easiest to test it in the Portfolio Library in OV.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Sorry I didn't make it clear in my first post...

I also should've emphasized that the previous snag is for a 2X margin account.
The Trade Multiplier and Minimum Trade size need to be adjusted as you change the margin.
They simply go up and down by the same ratio that the margin (Max % of Equity) is adjusted.

So, when the margin is reduced to 1X (1/2 of what it was for the margin account), the trade multiplier and minimum trade size are also reduced by 1/2.
The same rule would be true for any level of Max % of Equity you might want to use.

Here's a snag for a 1X IRA setup...

Thanks for the question Arby - I should've made it clearer at the beginning.
If anyone else has a question, please let me know.

Mark

Another important thing to note...

You need to go to the Portfolio Library to modify the Trade Multiplier and then "Save" the changes.

If you also make the changes to the various account settings while you're on the Portfolio Library tab, they do not carry over to the trading account.

Make sure the Account Settings back in the Account Summary of OV are correct and save them there.

I'll also reiterate that what I've shared entails some major changes to the size of the trades in FTM... while I've made the changes for my accounts (esp since there are no open trades at the moment), you may want to consider whether the changes are appropriate and in line with your risk tolerance, etc.

Thanks,
Mark
