First, Jim you did a very valuable thing by asking Jerry that series of questions as to how he uses OP and what he has learned during his years of testing. And Jerry thanks for answering. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was helped by those posts. Thanks to both of you. 2. As a note to Nirvana, I'd like to suggest that you and all of us begin to consider making a distinction between autopilot/automatic trading vs. a "new" term that I will coin tonight and that is UNATTENDED autopilot/automatic trading. As Jim correctly summarizes, UNATTENDED automatic trading is what he and I are going after. And at least in my case, I mean unattended automatic trading for the entire five day trading week year-round(adjusted for holidays). Not because I necessarily want to do it this way but because of the way I make my living and my living situation(alone)makes this a necessity. Surely there other traders who also would prefer/need unattended automatic trading via the new Omnivest. E.g., traveling salesmen, healthcare professionals, soldiers and sailors deployed overseas etc. Imagine, for example, how terrific it would be for a sailor deployed for six months on a carrier to be able to confidently setup an unattended automatic Omnivest at home so that he's making money while he's gone. Trading perhaps long-only both T3 and VBX-3 together? Maybe he's even a Club member using ARM-4 strats? If Omnivest can do all that now then that's great. But I don't know. If not, that's the direction some of us need Omnivest to go. I am aware, as Jim points out, that there are additional concerns and possible pitfalls with unattended automatic trading. I am also aware, as Angela Duran alluded to in another thread, that some of those concerns are obviously not in Nirvana's control. E.g., my plan, out of necessity, to use my home satellite internet as my backbone connection for trading. Certainly I would not hold Nirvana accountable for any failures in trading due to my satellite connection going down in a thunderstorm at market open. As an aside, as I experiment with my satellite internet with the goal of unattended automatic trading, I do notice that I MUST have a battery backup for my satellite modem. In the Texas summer heat, we tend to have fairly frequent power "glitches." I found out that my modem will not automatically reset and reestablish internet connection even when the power returns. So, to be sure there is NO power interruption to the modem, I will have to buy a battery backup for the modem(I see modem battery backups for sale on Ebay. Or even modems with backup batteries already built in). I'm sure there will be other things to learn through experience. At any rate, this was a very productive thread. Certainly some traders, like Jerry, would not trade without OP. And the gentleman who started this thread is still leery about using OP at least when it comes to options. Omnivest needs to have it's sh%t wired tight and I mean tight for me to write that $5,000 Club check by the end of the month. I don't want to EVER see forum posts about bugs or issues with options or anything else relating to Omnivest. |
