How do I set up an MB Trading Demo Account?

Visit www.MBTrading.com you will create the Universal Account Login.

To begin this process you will click on Getting Started Now and then Universal Account Log in.

From the Setup Your MB Trading Access you will need to make a choice about your account type.

Forex or Equities / Options / Futures. Select Equities.

You will then choose to either Open a Live Trading Account or Open a Practice/Demo Account.

You will then start the account creation of your Login by entering your name and email address. Once entered, click on Setup Your Access Now.

Enter your personal information and then click Activate My Account.

Once this information has been submitted you will receive an email that will allow you to complete the login process.

You will click on the Green Complete Login Process button which will take you to the create Account Login page.

You will then create a username and password for the MB Trading website and software. You will also need to create a 4 digit pin number and answer a few security questions.

MBTrading has also put together a YouTube video showing these steps.

FYI - Looks like the initial equity on the demo accounts is $30K. I didn't see a way to change it upon first creation.

Also worth noting, MBT has an iPhone app that will show transaction history and account balance. It's a lot more convenient than their web interface. They have a nice trading platform too, but it you log-in to it, you will break the server connection for the TP.

Because we can't set the commission rate to anything but the default, it seems to be that all we are going to learn from this exercise is whether the TP is working correctly or not which is probably what we should expect from the Alpha release. We are working out any bugs in the TP. Whether the strategies within a portfolio are profitable or not is something else as the fixed cost per trade kills the incremental profits from the trades.

As an aside to MBT, whose cage at GXT needs to be rattled to get some of the changes made that have been asked for and semi-promised as coming soon for months?

Matt - I have just spoken to Vincent over at the MB Traders help desk and he has told me that there is no way to change the commission structure in Demo accounts. He also noted that if funds run out you can reset the demo account by logging in to their website.

I know that our brokerage development team has been working on improvements to the GXTrader platform.

Are there any settings required to enable an API or socket level access? (As I recall with the IB TWS settings...)

I can log into the MBT Desktop and place trades.

TP fails trying to connect to MBT. The username and password entered into the TP Connection Settings dialog appear to be correct.

Thanks

For MB there are no additional API settings. Just make sure MB is the same version that the latest OT needs, v11.8.0.43, that your id & PW are correct, & that the MB Navigator is not running when you open the TP.

MBT Desktop == MB Navigator?

MBT Desktop should NOT BE RUNNING. (The opposite from IB TWS...)

Still no luck but I'll keep trying stuff.

Yes, MB Navigator/Desktop. Glad you got it now. We need to add something that tells the user to close MB first if the TP starts & it's open.

Ryan, I have 3 GX accounts and 1 MB account. Well before market open almost every day the 3 GX accounts have 3 blue computer screen logos, but the MB account invariably has 2 blue and 1 red cross.

Hovering over the cross gives a message "You are disconnected from the data server".

By market open it seems to go to 3 blue and the trades process correctly, but I just keep wondering if everything is OK and should I restart the TP or is there some other action that I should take?

MB shuts down their servers for maintenance every day at different times. It's pretty normal.

I have a big red "X" in the Trade Processor on the Server in Account "MB". There is 30 mins to market open, seems this would not normally be a maintenance period. Could you check please?

John, it's a global issue. We're working with MB's dev team to resolve it. TPs will still trade without a data connection though since the trade information comes from OmniVest.

Hi Barry, All my MB trades on the web based TP went to "Unmanaged" over the weekend.

Is there a fix coming soon to allow unmanaged web trades to be resynchronised in the same manner as the PC based TP is able to resync unmanaged trades?

It may be caused by the connection issues that Trade King had over the weekend up until today, not sure. I'll look into it.

I'm still waiting for the synch options to be added. I don't know when they will be. In the meantime keep a desktop version of the TP installed for when you need to synch. The website & the desktop TP will both work & connect to the same server TP.
